Forest Road North View
Slieve Gullion is a mountain of southern Antrim County, Northern Ireland. The chain of distant hills are part of a ring dyke, the Ring of Gullion surrounding the mountain. The hills and 1,880 Slieve Gullion are remnants of volcanic eruptions from about 65 million years ago. Prehistoric passage tombs and ancient ruins are found on the mountain-top and all around the ring. Folklore arose from the unique characteristics of these landforms. For example, it was on these slopes Cuchulainn, the hero of Táin Bó Cúailnge, received his name. These are some views from the slopes of Slieve Gullion taken on a May day, the year 2014.
